Cloud services are broadly divided into three categories: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Some simple instances where a cloud model would be useful:
- To temporarily augment your internal capacity for specific needs
- To offload heavy-duty background processes that consume extensive compute cycles and memory like archivals, batch processes etc.
